Questions about Twin
Plain answers about what Twin does today. Something missing? Write to bbhanotr@wsgtwin.com.
Getting started
Where does Twin live, and what does it do?
An assistant that lives in your Mac's notch, or in a small pill at the top of the screen on Windows. Hold ⌃⌥ and ask about what's on your screen: Twin answers out loud, points at things with its own pointer, and clicks for you when you ask. Hold fn ⌃ to dictate into any text box. For longer jobs, agents work in the background and come back with a document.
Will it run on my computer?
Macs with macOS 14.2 or later, Apple silicon or Intel. On a Mac with a notch Twin sits in it; on other screens it floats as a pill at the top. On Windows, Windows 10 (version 2004 or later) or Windows 11, 64-bit, where it lives in a pill at the top of the screen.
Do I need an account?
Yes. The first time Twin opens, it asks you to sign in with Google or Facebook. Your answers, memory and agents belong to that account.
What does it ask permission for on a Mac?
The microphone, to hear you. Accessibility, to point at and click real buttons. Screen & System Audio Recording, to see your screen when you ask and to hear a call when you ask it to take notes. The first run gives each one its own page and shows you which switch to turn on.
Can I change the keys?
Yes. Settings › Keys lists the combinations you can use for asking and for dictating, and won't let you pick two that clash. On Windows the defaults are Ctrl + Alt to ask and Ctrl + Windows key to dictate.
How does Twin update?
By itself. On a Mac it checks once a day, downloads in the background and installs when you quit Twin. On Windows, a waiting update installs the next time Twin starts.
Asking and doing
When does Twin look at my screen?
Only when you ask: while you hold ⌃⌥ (or after you say “What's good, Twin”, if you've turned that on), when it takes a screenshot of each display, and again when something you started needs to see the next step. The rest of the time it isn't looking.
Can I show it what I mean?
Yes. While you hold ⌃⌥, move the mouse to the thing you mean, or draw a circle around it, and Twin answers about that. Circle a file on your desktop and say “compress this”, and it works on that file.
Will it click things for me?
When you ask it to do something, yes. Everyday things that are easy to undo happen right away: opening a link, an app or a website, switching tabs, reloading. Anything that closes or ends something, like closing a tab or leaving a call, waits until you say yes. On screen, Twin never deletes, pays, sends, submits or signs out: it points at that button and leaves the click to you.
Can it do something that takes several steps?
Yes. Say “make a channel called design” and Twin works through it one action at a time, showing each step in the notch. It stops to ask when it isn't sure, and when a step needs your yes.
Does it know about things that happened today?
When a question needs current facts, Twin searches the web, answers from what it read, and shows the pages as chips you can open.
Can it find and change my files?
Say “find my rent agreement” and Twin searches your computer and shows the files. Say “compress my passport under 2 MB” or “convert this to a PDF” and it saves a new copy next to the original, which it never changes.
Dictation
Where can I dictate?
Into any text box in any app: hold fn ⌃, talk, let go. Twin drops the ums, applies your corrections (“Thursday, no, Friday”), fits the app you're typing into and carries on from the text already there. If no text box is selected, your words are copied so you can paste them.
Can I dictate without holding the keys?
Tap fn ⌃ twice to start, talk for up to five minutes, and tap again to stop.
Can it learn names it gets wrong?
Yes. Correct a word within 20 seconds of dictating it and Twin's personal dictionary learns it, or add words yourself in Settings › Dictation.
Agents
What counts as a job for an agent?
A helper for jobs that take longer than an answer: researching a topic, summarising or translating a file, making a document or PDF, converting files, or taking notes in a meeting. It works in the background, lists its steps in its own chat, and speaks up when it's done.
Where do agents run?
On your computer, or on Twin's servers when you're signed in and “Run agents on Twin's servers” is on in Settings › General. If the servers can't take a job, it runs on your computer instead. Either switch can be turned off.
Where do the documents go?
Into Documents › Twin, as PDFs, never over another file. The agent's chat and the notch show the file so you can open it.
How does note-taking work?
Say “take notes”. Twin records your microphone and, if you allow it, the sound of the call, transcribes as it goes, and when you say “stop recording” writes a summary, decisions and action items into a PDF. It reminds you to tell everyone they're being recorded, and stops after two hours at most.
Can an agent repeat a job?
Yes. Say “every Monday at 9, summarise my unread newsletters” and the agent turns it into a routine. Pause it, run it now or delete it from the agent's chat.
Your apps
Can Twin read my email and calendar?
Yes, once you connect them in Settings › Connections. It works with Gmail, Google Calendar, Drive, Docs and Sheets, Outlook, Slack, Notion, GitHub, Linear, Jira, Asana, Trello, HubSpot, Dropbox, Zoom, Discord and YouTube. Each app signs in on its own page. You can also add any MCP server as a custom connector.
Will it send an email without asking me?
Not unless you say so. Twin reads straight away, but anything that sends, books, posts or changes something in your apps waits for your yes. “Book half an hour with Ravi tomorrow” ends with Twin asking whether to send the invite. If you answer “Always for this agent”, that agent stops asking for that app (never for payments) until you stop allowing it in its ⋯ menu.
How do I disconnect an app?
Settings › Connections, then Disconnect. That removes the account and revokes Twin's access to it.
Memory and privacy
What does Twin remember?
What you tell it about yourself and how you like things done: “I'm vegetarian”, “answer me in Hindi”, the project you're on. Small talk and one-off questions about the screen aren't kept, and what's on your mind fades after 30 days. Every memory is listed in Settings › Memory, where you can pause, edit or wipe them.
What won't it remember?
Passwords, PINs, OTPs, card and bank numbers, Aadhaar, PAN and passport numbers, and API keys: Twin refuses to keep them even if you ask. Health, religion, caste, politics, money and other people's phone numbers or emails are kept only when you say “remember that”.
Can I pause or delete what it remembers?
Yes. Turn off “Let Twin remember” to pause it, edit or forget any line, or use Forget Everything. Saying “forget that I live in Pune” works too.
Does Twin collect analytics?
No. The apps have no analytics or tracking code, and neither does this website.
Who handles my requests?
Your requests go through Twin's own server, which holds the keys. When you speak any language, Deepgram writes down what you say, Twin's model on Microsoft Azure answers and Cartesia speaks; for Indian languages, Sarvam AI does all three. Sarvam AI also reads documents; models on Microsoft Azure plan agents' work in your apps; TypeSafe picks the next step of a task on screen; Composio connects your apps. The Privacy Policy lists everyone and what they get.
How do I delete my account?
Settings › Profile › Delete Account. It deletes your account, everything synced to it, and everything Twin remembers about you.
Languages and price
Which languages does Twin speak?
Twin understands you in any language, even when you switch mid-sentence. It answers out loud in English; in Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi and Odia; and in Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Japanese and Russian. It answers in English unless you set Settings › General › Language to match how you speak, or to one language. Natural voices speak English and the worldwide languages, and Sarvam's Indian voices speak Indian languages; choose Indian languages in Settings › Microphone to have Sarvam listen and answer too. Dictation's tidy-up can be set to 22 languages.
What does Twin cost today?
Nothing: billing isn't switched on, so every signed-in account uses all of Twin for free. The pricing page shows the plans we intend to offer.
How do I reach a person?
Write to bbhanotr@wsgtwin.com. Twin's Settings also has a Feedback page for bugs and requests.
Hold controloption and ask.
Twin answers out loud and points at the button.
